Find a licensed cosmetology or esthetics school
Your training hours count toward a license only at a state-licensed school. Every school and program here holds a current license from Texas TDLR or Virginia's Board for Barbers and Cosmetology, with the license number, school type and, in Virginia, the disciplines it is licensed to teach.

Common questions
How many hours do I need for a Texas cosmetology license?
TDLR requires 1,000 hours at a licensed school for a cosmetology operator or Class A barber license, 750 for an esthetician, 600 for a manicurist and 320 for an eyelash extension specialist. See Texas requirements.
How many hours does Virginia require?
Virginia's minimum curricula are 1,000 hours for cosmetology, 750 for barber, 600 for esthetics, 150 for nail technician and 115 for wax technician. See Virginia requirements.
Can I get a refund if I change my mind?
In Texas, a private beauty school must give a full refund if you cancel by midnight of the third day after signing (excluding weekends and holidays), and must refund unused tuition if you withdraw later (Occupations Code §§1603.3601–.3602).
What's the difference between an esthetician and a cosmetologist?
In Texas a cosmetologist can do hair, skin, nails and more; an esthetician is limited to skin care, hair removal and eyelash extensions. See which license to choose.
How do I check a beauty school's license?
Each listing shows the license number from the state file. Confirm Texas schools on TDLR's license search and Virginia schools on DPOR's license lookup.
Why are there no Texas barber schools?
Every barber school license in TDLR's barber school file had expired as of October 2026, so none can be shown as currently licensed. Texas cosmetology schools are listed, and Virginia barber schools are included.
